An antique Persian Yazd carpet. Just as imaginative as their Kerman sisters to the southeast, Yazd carpets have their own decorative vocabulary. This almost Neo-classical European-style finely woven town carpet displays an octogramme-plus ivory medallion held in place by convex re-entrant panels at the cardinal points. The vertical panels enclose vases with fountain arrays of flowering vines. The field is a rich umber brown and there are giant tilted botehs in the corners. The border appears as trapezoidal sections with internal arabesques partially on each side. Visually exciting and unique carpet.
